One.. Two... Three... Breathe in
One...Two...Three...Breathe out
What do you notice? Your system filled with oxygen, exhaling waste in the form of carbon dioxide. You are alive, in this space. Without your conscious awareness, we have been operating this system automatically. This conscious has become the unconscious, the aware has become the unaware.
Even your thoughts shape who you are today, the actions you took, and the decisions you make. Maybe, we have slowly turned this system into autopilot, just like breathing. Slowly and gradually, we might have just taken our lives, our mortal and finite lives for granted.
There's always a hint of hauntedness creeping at the back of my skull when I realise I have taken things for granted in life, my existence is one of them.
Taking things for granted means perceiving things as they are. Accepting them as a given without processing them. Turning the unobligated into automatic thinking. Thinking exactly how we perceive them to be. Isn't that such a scary thought?
Taking our existence for granted robs away our ability to seek happiness. It also throws away the responsibility of our autonomy in navigating life. If you think about it, every action, emotion, situation or even goal we have and had made has come to result from us. Nobody will carve out a path for us to walk. Nobody is obligated to do that for us, not even our parents, our teachers, our boss, or even the government.
In the grand scheme of things, we are free to do whatever we want and become whoever we aspire to be. With this freedom, comes a responsibility. And that responsibility would be not to take anything in life for granted and to be conscious of the choices we make.
For automation will lead to non-thinking. And doesn't the thought of unconsciously living a life haunt you when we are just finite beings floating in this time and space?
It does scare me to say the least, so maybe we could all spend some time looking at our way of living in retrospect and have a potential self-inspection.
And do not forget to
Breathe in one...two...three...and
Breathe out one...two... three...
